Funeral services were held for Laura Caruthers, 96, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church in Lisbon, LA, on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Terry Willis and Dr. Steve Fowler officiated and the interment followed at the Lisbon Methodist Cemetery.

Laura was born in Lisbon on December 8, 1914, to Shelton Mack and Tula Patton Caruthers. She entered into rest on March 26, 2011. Laura was a lifelong member of the Lisbon United Methodist Church. She went to school in Lisbon, attended La. Tech and Centenary, and graduated from Norton Business College. She worked for 5 years at the main post office in downtown Shreveport. Laura left the post office and went to work for First National Bank in Shreveport. She worked there for 35 years and retired to come home to Lisbon to live in her family home. Upon retirement Laura made it her project to beautify the Lisbon Methodist Cemetery.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Shelton, her brother John Dewitt Caruthers, her sister Marguerite Thurmon and her nephew Lt. Col. Robert Lane Thurmon. She is survived by two nephews, John D. Caruthers, Jr. and wife, Jane, of Shreveport and Robert Mack Caruthers and wife, Valleau, of Nashville, TN, and Jimmie Thurmon, a special niece, of Gaithersburg, MD, and several great and great great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers include Witt Caruthers, Andrew Caruthers, Philip Hirsch, Michael Hirsch, Harrison Caruthers, Scott Pernici, Tom White, Randy Tyler, Shelton Caruthers, Danny Suggs and Gil Dowies.

Ms. Laura has requested in lieu of flowers for friends to consider memorials to the Lisbon United Methodist Church, The Lisbon Methodist Cemetery, or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank Drs. Don, Mark and Scott Haynes, Melinda and Gil Dowies, Pam and Danny Suggs, and the Staffs of Claiborne Family Medical Clinic and Claiborne Manor.
